KH Neochem Co., Ltd. hereby announces that it has entered into a business alliance agreement with Hokkaido System Science Co., Ltd. to expand contract synthesis services for glycan-modified oligonucleotides and promote related sales activities at Hokkaido System Science.
1. Background to the Business Alliance
In recent years, nucleic acid therapeutics*1 have emerged as a next-generation drug modality, and research and development involving siRNA, antisense oligonucleotides, and other technologies have accelerated worldwide. At the same time, establishing efficient drug delivery systems (DDS) to target tissues remains a key challenge for the practical application of nucleic acid therapeutics.
Glycan-based targeting technologies have the potential to enhance the selective delivery of therapeutics to specific tissues. This growing interest in targeted delivery is driving increased demand for research and development involving glycan-modified oligonucleotides.
2. Details of the Business Alliance
Building on its long-standing expertise in advanced organic synthesis, KH Neochem provides high-purity, homogeneous glycans essential for pharmaceutical development. The company offers integrated support throughout the development process, from structural design, synthesis, and evaluation to scale-up manufacturing.
Hokkaido System Science, meanwhile, has operated an oligonucleotide synthesis business for more than 30 years. In addition to contract synthesis services for DNA, RNA, and various modified oligonucleotides, it provides CRDMO*2 services supporting nucleic acid therapeutics from research and development through manufacturing.
Under this alliance, the companies will leverage their respective technologies and expertise in glycans and oligonucleotides. Hokkaido System Science will launch contract synthesis services for oligonucleotides modified with KH Neochem’s glycans.
3. Future Direction
Through this alliance, KH Neochem will support Hokkaido System Science in expanding its service lineup for glycan-modified oligonucleotides, while contributing more broadly to the development of therapeutics through the application of glycan technologies.
